Brothers gotta hug...

Some days I feel like we're raising both a toddler and a newborn, since we try our best to involve Bodhi and not become people who forget about the dog once the kid arrives. That has meant lots of one-on-one time with Bo whenever we have a free moment - you know, a break from feeding, diapering, or sleeping. It seems to have improved the bout of doggie depression he had at first, when he realized he had to share the spotlight. And we tend to use the same tone when speaking to both of them, which has caused some confusion. I even told Jackson to "drop it" when he had a death grip while during a feeding!

So since we treat our dog like a person (and freely admit it) he seems to have adopted some of the tactics older children do to feel included. He has learned to walk himself on his leash, so that I have free hands (he has the leash attached to his collar, and carries the other end of the leash in his mouth). He is protective of his little bro, and kisses him constantly - hopefully Jackson will have some good immunity. Next we'll be working on diapering and having him take over the 3 am feedings! Here's a shot of the walk, the brothers just chilling, and another of Bo tolerating Jackson sleeping on him.

What a funny post Jen!:) I love the pic of Jackson on Bo... I have many pics at different stages like that. It's precious, and I'm glad to see Bo is enjoying (or tolerating) his little bro! :)

Coming from someone who also treats her dog(s) like a human, your post made me smile. I've always wondered how it would work balancing a newborn and Riley (our Border Collie/9 year old son), you are setting a great example for us! Love the picture of Bohdi holding his leash, and of course your beautiful son napping away on your 'toddler'. Glad you are all doing well. When do we get to see you?!?

So cute, love the one of him sleeping on Bo. I think Bodhi is more like a preschooler than a toddler because he sure did listen better than Maddie when we all went for a walk!
